Mauro Giuliani (1781-1829)

This Italian guitar virtuoso flourished through the first third of the 19th century. Giuliani was born in Barletta, July 27, 1781, and died in Naples, May 8, 1829. At the age of 19 he undertook a highly succesful tour in Europe; settled in Vienna in 1807, where he became associated with Hummel, Moschelles and Diabelli; Beethoven became interested in him. He won extraordinary acclaim in London
Giuliani wrote three Guitar Concertos, with a number of works for solo guitar and for two guitars. Other ensemble music includes works for guitar and string quartet, guitar and violin and guitar and piano. His songs also offer the option of guitar accompaniment.
